A deconstructive montage works with juxtapositions alongside having the aesthetic of cut and paste. “The dialectical mission is to fuse fragments as concentrated form; the discursive one is to create fissures or interruptions in the established order (Druckrey 1994, p.5).” According to Druckrey, a montage image is either dialectical or discursive. Besides that, a deconstructive image is very carefully studied and considered as the combination of images are put together to create and convey a whole new meaning. A good example of a deconstructive montage would be the works of Dadaists, which was a huge art movement in the 20th century by the European avant-garde called Dadaism. These European avant-garde’s used deconstructive montages to go against the war and bankrupt materialism (Marien 2002, p. 247).

While creating a deconstructive montage myself for the first part of this assignment, the most time consuming part was coming up with the message and meaning I was trying to create and convey. Through this part of the assignment I have learn that it is one thing to design and create an image with techniques and using as many Photoshop tools to create a meaningless image impactful look but, it is a whole different thin, to create an impactful image that conveys a message, a emotion and/or a feeling. After the hurdle of coming up with a topic for my deconstructive montage which is ‘friends come and go but memorise live’, I had a lot of fun constructing and slipping out my creative juices on the image I have created.
